Why rent a house in Osaka
Osaka's sights are packed into a compact city centre, and the subway and JR Loop Line reach almost all of them. That makes where you sleep a question of space and freedom rather than location. - 4 to 8 people in one place: a group that would need two or three hotel rooms fits in one house. Gather in the evening to plan the next day, or share takoyaki you picked up on the way home. - Kitchen and washing machine: a real advantage on longer stays. Cooking with ingredients from Kuromon Market or a local shopping street is a very Osaka pleasure. - Cost per person: divide the all-inclusive house price by the number of guests and it is often cheaper than hotels in peak season.
Osaka's areas at a glance
- Tamatsukuri and Morinomiya (Osaka Castle): walking distance to Osaka Castle Park, direct Loop Line trains to Tennoji and Osaka station. A calm residential area popular with families. - Namba, Nipponbashi and Tennoji: Dotonbori, Shinsekai and Abeno Harukas are a short walk or train ride away. Best for groups who want to stay out late. - Shin-Osaka and Higashi-Mikuni: handy for Shinkansen travel and for day trips to Kyoto and Kobe. - Suburbs such as Suminoe and Hirano: easy driving to USJ and Kansai Airport, and where you are most likely to find a detached house with parking.
Hotel or rental house?
One or two people, sightseeing-focused, happy with a hotel breakfast: choose a hotel. Three or more, several nights, want to cook or do laundry, want everyone in the same space: choose a rental house. If you are undecided, let the number of people and nights decide.
Being a good guest
Osaka rentals are often in apartment buildings or terraced houses in residential streets with neighbours next door. Keeping voices down at night, sorting rubbish correctly and not lingering at the front door go a long way to keeping everyone happy.
